Delete your account
WannaShare is a group expense-splitting app published by Smoothless. You can ask us to delete your WannaShare account and the data attached to it at any time, for any reason, without giving one. This page says how to ask, what disappears, and what is kept.
How to request deletion
- Send an email to support.wannashare@smoothless.org with the subject “WannaShare account deletion request”.
- Send it from the email address you use to sign in to WannaShare. That is how we confirm the request is yours. If you signed in with Google, use that Google address. If you cannot email us from that address, say so and we will verify another way before deleting anything.
- We confirm receipt, delete the account, and email you when it is done — within 30 days, and usually within a few days.
You do not need the app installed to make the request, and there is no fee. Deletion is permanent: there is no recovery window and no way to undo it, so settle up with your groups first if you still owe or are owed money.
What is deleted
- Your profile: email address, display name, and profile picture.
- Your password hash, and the link between your account and Google Sign-In.
- The payment identifiers you saved so people could pay you back: phone number, bank account number, SWIFT/BIC, country, and any payment-method handles.
- Your push-notification device token, so notifications stop.
- Your group memberships — you are removed from every group you belong to.
- Your personal identity on the expenses, payments, and messages you created. What remains of them in a group is no longer linked to you or to any contact detail of yours.
What is kept, and for how long
Shared group history. WannaShare records money between people. An expense you paid for is also a debt someone else owes, so the expense and payment records inside a group stay with that group for its other members, with your name removed. Your former groups keep working for the people still in them. If you want the whole group gone, delete the group in the app before you request account deletion, or say so in your email and we will delete the groups where you are the only member.
Database snapshots. We snapshot the database before each server update and keep only the ten most recent. A copy of your deleted data can survive in those snapshots until they rotate out — how long that takes depends on how often we deploy, typically weeks. Snapshots are stored on the same EU server as the live data and are used only to recover from a failed update. They are never used to restore a deleted account.
Server request logs. Standard logs — IP address, timestamp, endpoint — are deleted automatically after 5 days.
Email correspondence. We keep the deletion request itself, so we can show that we handled it. It is deleted after 12 months.
Deleting only some of your data
You do not have to delete the whole account. In the app you can change your display name and profile picture, switch off and clear any saved payment method under Profile › Payment methods, delete individual expenses, leave a group, delete a group you own, and turn off push notifications. For anything else — including a piece of data the app gives you no button for — email support.wannashare@smoothless.org from the address you sign in with, say what you want removed, and we will do it within 30 days without touching the rest of your account.
